FAQ
Short answers to the problems that come up most often.
Troubleshooting
Projects open a “Page not found”
The address rules are out of date, usually after a migration or a change of the Portfolio base.
- Go to Settings → Permalinks in the WordPress admin.
- Click Save Changes without changing anything. This rebuilds the address rules.
- Open a project again.
Also check that no page or post uses the same slug as the Portfolio base.
The block shows “No projects yet”
- Make sure at least one project is Published, not a draft.
- Check Content → Show: with By Category, By Author or By ID the block shows only what matches.
- With By Category, check that the projects are actually in that category.
The filter or pagination reloads the page
That is the default. Turn on Toolbar & Pagination → Behavior → Enable AJAX to update the grid in place.
“Load More Button” is greyed out
Load More needs AJAX. Turn on Enable AJAX first.
The “all projects” button opens a blog-like page
The button leads to the automatic archive, which your theme shows with its own archive template. Create a page with the Sparrow Portfolio block and select it in Settings → General → Archive → Portfolio page.
The search button looks unstyled for a moment
This happens when the search shortcode sits in the header. Turn on Settings → General → Search → Load on every page.
Search does not find a new project
The search list is cached and refreshed when a project is saved. Open the project and click Update. If you use a caching plugin, clear its cache.
Dark mode does not switch with my theme
- Check that the scheme in Settings → Color Scheme is Follow the theme.
- Check the selector: it must be the class or attribute that appears on the page in dark mode, written with a dot for a class (
.dark) or in square brackets for an attribute ([data-theme="dark"]). - If you set your own Title, Category or Date colours in the block, fill in the Dark tab as well.
A font I picked does not show
- Check that Font Weight is one the font actually has.
- With local fonts on, click Settings → Performance → Clear cache and reload the page.
- Check that your theme does not force its own font with
!important.
Thumbnails look blurry or load slowly
Upload images at least 1200 px wide, in WebP or JPG. The block picks a suitable size for each screen from the sizes WordPress generated on upload. For images uploaded long ago, regenerate thumbnails with a plugin made for that.
The slider does not move in the editor
Sliders are shown as a static row in the editor. They work on the published page.
The password form is not shown, or keeps asking
- A page cache can serve a stored copy. Exclude project pages from the cache or clear it after changing a password.
- The password is remembered per browser. A visitor in another browser has to enter it again.
Common questions
Is my content deleted when I remove the plugin?
No, unless you turn on Settings → Data → Delete data on uninstall. Deactivating never deletes anything.
Can I use the block with Elementor or another builder?
Yes, through the shortcode. Set up a block on any page, copy its shortcode from the Shortcode panel and paste it into the builder’s shortcode widget.
Can I show several portfolios on one page?
Yes. Add several blocks; each has its own source, layout and styles.
Filter, sorting and page parameters in the address apply to all blocks on the page when AJAX is off, so turn AJAX on for independent blocks.
Does the plugin load anything from other servers?
Only Google Fonts, and only when you pick a font family in the block. Turn on Load Google Fonts locally to serve them from your own site.
